Index in cosmos db
You can use the REST API to index Azure Cosmos DB data, following a three-part workflow common to all indexers in Azure Cognitive Search: create a data source, create an index, create an indexer. Data extraction from Cosmos DB occurs when you submit the Create Indexer request. After this request is finished, you will have a queryable index. As stated in Index Types Azure Cosmos containers support a new index layout that no longer uses the Hash index kind. If you specify a Hash index kind on the indexing policy, the CRUD requests on the container will silently ignore the index kind and the response from the container only contains the Range index kind. With Cosmos DB, you do not need to deal with schema or index management. The database engine is fully schema-agnostic. Since no schema and index management is required, you also don’t have to worry about application downtime while migrating schemas. Cosmos DB automatically indexes all data and serves queries fast. Cosmos DB offers two types of indexes: range, supporting range and ORDER BY queries, spatial, supporting spatial queries from points, polygons and line strings encoded in standard GeoJSON fragments. Containers can also enforce unique key constraints to ensure data integrity. Indexing using Azure Cosmos DB's API for MongoDB. Azure Cosmos DB's API for MongoDB leverages automatic index management capabilities of Cosmos DB. As a result, users have access to the default indexing policies of Cosmos DB. So, if no indexes have been defined by the user, or no indexes have been dropped, then all fields will be automatically Cosmos DB automatically indexes the documents, and this helps the high throughput of these query in most cases. But, you remember that not all the query is covered by the default index settings, and the index designing is still important for detailed cases. Here I explain how it works and how to design.

In Cosmos DB service, it's going to drive the database from application, no need to do any changes in your database when you have a schema change Every property in a document is getting indexed, no need to create indexes manually.

In Azure Cosmos DB, every container has an indexing policy that dictates how the container's items should be indexed. The default indexing policy for newly created containers indexes every property of every item, enforcing range indexes for any string or number, and spatial indexes for any GeoJSON object of type Point. In Azure Cosmos DB, the indexing policy can be updated using any of the below methods: from the Azure portal. using the Azure CLI. using PowerShell. using one of the SDKs. By default, Azure Cosmos DB will create a range index on every property. For many workloads, these indexes are enough, and no further optimizations are necessary. Composite indexes can be added in addition to the default range indexes. Composite indexes have both a path and order (ASC or DESC) defined for each property within the composite index. By default, Azure Cosmos DB automatically indexes every property for all items in your container without the need to define any schema or configure secondary indexes. If you chose to leave indexing policy at the default settings, you can run most queries with optimal performance and never have to explicitly consider indexing. Commonly used if Cosmos DB is utilized as key-value storage and documents are accessed only by their Id Property. Index Paths. You can choose which path must be included or excluded from indexing. This can offer improved write performance and lower index storage for scenarios when the query patterns are known beforehand. Azure Cosmos DB is a globally distributed, multi-model database service for any scale. The service was built from the ground up with global distribution and horizontal scale at its core. With turnkey global distribution across any number of Azure regions, Azure Cosmos DB transparently scales and replicates your data wherever your users are.

By default, every field in each item is automatically indexed, generally providing good performance without tuning to specific query patterns. These defaults can be modified by setting an indexing policy which can specify, for each field, the index type and precision desired. Cosmos DB offers two types of indexes: In the Cosmos DB documentation I found this cenario and the suggestion is increase RU. Currently I have 400 RU/s, when I increase to 10.000 RU/s I'm capable to run the command with no errors but in 5 seconds. I already tryed to create index explicity, but it seems Cosmos DB doesn't use the index to make count.
